It is envisaged that internet and mobile banking on smart phones and other android devices will continue to grow at rapid rates.
The big four banks as well as several others, including Nationwide, Santander and the Co-Operative, already allow their current account users to use the 11,500 strong Post Office network to cash and deposit cheques, withdraw cash and check balances. In addition, banks are looking at introducing more kiosks within supermarkets and home–based “Skype-like” call systems.
It should be noted, there are a few ‘challenger banks’ looking to stem this tide. Operators such as Metro Bank and Virgin are increasing their physical branch presence, although new openings tend to be in affluent centres or shopping malls which already benefit from strong footfall.
